Wood burning banned in Southern California

The prohibition on burning wood It is valid this Monday, December 23 for much of Southern California.

The authorities reported that the restriction on burning firewood is due to a forecast of high air pollution in the region.

According to a statement from South Coast Air Quality Management Districtthe ban on burning wood in residential areas is in effect at least until 11:59 pm this Monday, December 23.

This restriction includes the South Coast Air Basin, which includes all of Orange Countyas well as the non-desert parts of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District said that The order does not apply to mountain communities located above 3,000 feet in elevation.the Coachella Valley or the high desert.

The restriction also does not apply for homes that depend on firewood as the only source of heatlow-income households and for people who do not have natural gas service.

Residents are reminded where the order is in effect that burning wood in fireplaces is prohibited or in any other indoor and outdoor wood burning device, as well as the burning of manufactured logs, such as those made from wax or paper.

The fine particles present in wood smoke, also known as suspended particles or PM2.5, can affect health because they reach deep into the lungs and cause breathing problems, such as asthma.
