Amber Heard raised her voice in support of Blake Lively after the accusations that the latter brought against Justin Baldoni, director and co-star of “It Ends With Us.”
In an exclusive statement to NBC News, Heard sympathized with Lively, ensuring that she has experienced similar experiences closely. “Social networks are the place where a lie becomes the truth”Heard said.
Blake Lively filed a complaint with the California Department of Civil Rights, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment, hostile work environment and orchestrating a social media campaign to damage her reputation. According to the document, Baldoni hired the same public relations team that Johnny Depp used during his high-profile trial against Heard in 2022.
Heard, who currently resides in Spain, was forceful in her position. “Social media is the absolute embodiment of the classic saying ‘A lie travels halfway around the world before the truth gets its boots on’,” Heard stated in a statement about the situation to NBC News.“I have seen this firsthand, and it is as terrifying as it is destructive.”. This reflection comes at a time when the management of the public narrative on social media has been the subject of intense scrutiny, both in Heard’s case and in Lively’s recent accusations.
For its part, Baldoni’s legal representatives called Lively’s accusations “false and shameful”. They alleged that the crisis team was hired solely to manage tensions generated by Lively’s alleged threats to abandon filming and not promote the film. However, the complaint filed by Lively details how the media strategy included tactics to manipulate public perception through social media posts and online forums, designed to discredit her.
The case has caused a flurry of reactions in Hollywood. Authors, colleagues and friends of Lively have expressed their public support. Colleen Hoover, author of the book on which “It Ends With Us” is based, praised Lively’s bravery: “You have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met.”Hoover wrote, sharing a photo of her and Lively hugging. “Thank you for being exactly the person you are. Never change. Never wither.”
Her companions from “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” criticized the apparent smear campaign.
“During the filming of ‘It Ends with Us,’ we saw how she mustered the courage to ask for a safe workplace for herself and her co-workers on set, and we were horrified to read the evidence of a premeditated, vindictive effort that was unleashed to discredit his voice. Most disturbing is the blatant exploitation of domestic violence survivors’ stories to silence a woman who asked for safety. The hypocrisy is astonishing.”
Although Baldoni has denied all accusations, the controversy continues to grow. The situation once again puts under scrutiny how public figures use their influence and resources to shape narratives in their favor, leaving the audience the task of discerning between truth and media strategy.
Heard, by speaking out on this issue, has renewed the conversation about the impact of the media trial and the importance of protecting the voices of those who dare to speak out.
