After all the relationship between Sergio “Checo” Pérez and the Red Bull team was on very good terms after the energy drink team director, Christian Horner, revealed that the Mexican will continue to be related to them and will participate in some “Show Runs” during 2025.
During an interview on the English radio program TalkSports, the Red Bull manager confirmed that the man from Guadalajara will remain linked to the team beyond having announced his departure as a driver for the Austrian team after four seasons as Max Verstappen’s teammate.
“He’ll be in a couple of ‘Show Runs’ with us next year, but it was the right thing for him, because it wasn’t nice for him to have all this scrutiny and pressure either.”said Horner, referring to what last Formula 1 season was like for the Mexican, who was constantly questioned.
And the bad results that accompanied Sergio “Checo” Pérez during practically all of 2024 caused the Mexican to finish in eighth place in the driver classification and ended up leaving the team that ended up opting for the New Zealander Liam Lawson as his successor.
“He had a really difficult year. “Last week we sat down and decided that he would get out of the car, take some time with his family, but he will continue with the team.”said the boss of the energy drink team, speaking about the decision to terminate the 34-year-old driver’s contract.
Although Sergio “Checo” Pérez himself had recently indicated that Red Bull would be his last team in Formula 1 and that after the 2025 season he would retire, now Christian Horner leaves in the air the possibility that the Mexican could return to the top category of world motorsport.
“We sat down and talked about it. He’ll go away and figure out what he wants to do. “Maybe I want to get back into this sport, maybe even next year.”the Briton released about the possible future of the man born in Guadalajara who will take advantage of this time to enjoy his family.
Let us remember that starting in 2026, a new team, GM/Cadillac, will enter Formula 1, which further opens the possibilities for Sergio “Checo” Pérez of an eventual return to the tracks after resting throughout the next season.
However, after his departure from Red Bull became known, the father of “Checo” Pérez pointed out that this goodbye also marked his son’s official retirement from F1, so we will have to wait for confirmation from the driver from Guadalajara. .
