With only a few days since its premiere in Netflixon December 13, the new series by the Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia “1992”, has become the surprise production of the season by “sneaking in”, in a short time”, to Top 10 of the streaming platform worldwide.
And unlike other major productions of the Thriller and Criminal genre, this series is characterized by its original plot that takes various details and characteristics from the famous Expo 1992 held in the city of Seville, Spain.
What is the surprise December series on Netflix about?
Composed of six episodes, “1992” narrates the life of Protectionplayed by the Spanish actress Marian Alvarezwho after her husband died in a strange explosion, begins to look for clues regarding a serial killer with the help of Richieplayed by the actor Fernando Valdivielsoa security guard with various alcohol problems.
The story is framed, in the same way, in the famous Expo’92 in Seville, Spaina 6-month universal exhibition that commemorated the V Centenary of the Discovery of America.
The production also takes as reference the Expo’92 to the famous mascot of the event, Joba colorful bird that becomes the killer’s calling card.
In addition to Valdivieso and Alvarez“1992” also features the performances of great Spanish-speaking actors such as Paz Vega, Victor Rivas, Carlos Santosamong others.
Through specialized sites such as Colliderthe series has received a series of mixed reviews in which it is described as an “exaggerated episode” of the classic television production “Criminal Minds” because “it wastes too much time before properly introducing us to the best part of the story: its mysterious killer.”
Regarding the critic Joel Kellerfrom the site Decide“1992” was described as a “fairly simple thriller” that includes a large number of actions or plots that “we have seen before.”
Despite the series of specialized criticisms, the truth is that the audience of Netflix has turned the series by Spanish director De la Iglesia into one of the best products of the season by placing it in the Top 10 of the platform, competing with important series such as “The Palm”, “The Madness” and “Black Doves”.
However, and due to the upcoming premiere of the second season of “The Squid Game”, on December 26, the production is expected to leave the main list of Netflix.
