The film that tells the origin story of a beloved Disney character who goes from being an orphaned puppy to becoming The Lion King: “Mufasa: The Lion King”. The third installment of the franchise based on the Sega game: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. The film that is inspired by the only unit of women of color in World War II: “The Six Triple Eight”. and the production inspired by real events in Cuba in the early 90s about Gustavo, his older brother Paco and their companions at the government sanatorium where they are: “The Geeks”.
Mufasa: The Lion King
Two trends from recent years at the Disney factory come together in the most talked-about theatrical release of the week: prequels or “origin stories” and hyperrealistic animation. “Mufasa” tells us, through flashbacks, how an orphaned cub ended up becoming The Lion King. The plot takes us to the moment when little Mufasa meets Taka, the heir to the throne. Both cubs will become inseparable and Mufasa (voice of Aaron Pierre) is welcomed into a new family. But the idyll will be broken when Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) becomes Scar… The film combines computer animation with real images taken in Africa, a work of the same artists who created “The Jungle Book” in 2016 and the latest “The Lion King” in 2019. Some voices of this one repeat, such as John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Pumbaa and Timon, Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala. The latter’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, debuts as Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala. The music, fundamental to all Lion King productions, is by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Third installment since 2020 of the franchise based on the Sega game. The speedster hedgehog Sonic (voiced again by Ben Schwatrz), the echidna Knuckles (Idris Elba) and the fox Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) will meet to face a new adversary, Shadow (Keanu Reeves), another hedgehog with super powers created in a secret government program. Among the “real” actors, Jim Carrey repeats with a double role: Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik and his grandfather Gerald Robotnik, creator of the Shadow project.
The Six Triple Eight
Tyler Perry writes and directs this film that is inspired by the story of the only black women’s unit in World War II. Despite racism and sexism, they committed to serving the United States under extreme working conditions in England and France. Starring Kerry Washington in the role of Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of Battalion 6888, in charge of processing the army’s postal mail, which was years behind in the last part of the war.
The Geeks
Inspired by real events in Cuba in the early 90s, “Los Frikis” follows Gustavo (Eros de la Puente), an 18-year-old young man who admires his older brother Paco (Héctor Medina) and his punk band mates. Geeks. Seeking a possible escape from the many prohibitions on the island, they do the unthinkable: they inject themselves with HIV to live together in a government sanatorium where they find freedom in friendship, love and music. With Adria Arjona and Jorge Perugorría. Premiere in cinemas.
