President-elect Donald Trump asked President Joe Biden’s government to “stop selling” parts of the border wall that were not used.
The Republican also indicated that he will continue with his plan to continue the wall with Mexico.
“We are going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars more to build the same wall we already have,” he said.
The president-elect responded in this way to reports that the Biden Administration allows states to purchase parts of the wall in Arizona through the GOVPlanet auction system with initial bids of $5.
Reports from media such as Texan claim that the Biden Administration began selling the parts of the wall in August 2023.
Trump asked that they stop selling them, in addition to promising the continuity of the border wall that he began in 2017 and defending its functionality.
“[El muro] “It really worked, and it worked well, and it’s very expensive to make, and I’m asking Joe Biden to stop his people from giving it away,” Trump said. “It’s something people can’t even believe is happening. So hopefully Joe can stop it.”
Defense Department officials said in a statement that Congress required in Section 2890 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2024 that they make a plan to use, transfer or donate unused border wall.
Because of this, they created a plan so that the states on the southern border would have preference to request the materials.
California and Texas emerged as main buyers, since they requested 60% of the materials, while the remaining 40% would be auctioned.
The construction of the border wall is one of Trump’s main projects for his new term in office that begins on January 20, 2025.
