Manchester City Pep Guardiola received a new blow this Sunday in the Premier League by losing in the derby against Manchester United (2-1), a result that continues to worsen the situation that the current champion of the English championship is going through.
Those led by the Catalan coach added their second consecutive defeat after falling last week against Juventus (2-0) in the Champions League. It is their third setback in the last five games in the midst of what is becoming a season to forget.
“I’m not good enough. We don’t have, I have no defense. I’m the boss, I’m the coach. I have to find solutions and so far I haven’t. That is the reality”Guardiola commented self-critically in the press conference after the match played at the Etihad Stadium.
United turned it around at the end
Pep Guardiola’s team seemed to have in their pocket what could become an important victory that would help them breathe in the midst of the poor results they have been experiencing in recent months. However, Manchester United was responsible for ruining that possibility.
Two goals in the final stretch of the match turned the score around in favor of the Red Devils, who ended up taking the three points on their visit to the home of the Citizens, adding their fifth defeat of the season in 16 games played so far. It’s from the English championship.
The Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol had put Manchester City ahead in the 36th minute and it was not until the 88th minute that Manchester United reacted with the tie achieved thanks to a penalty from the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes. Two minutes later Amad Diallo put Ruben Amorim’s team ahead.
“There is no defense. Manchester United were incredibly persistent. We haven’t lost eight games in two seasons. We cannot defend this. “It is a big club and a big club when you lose eight to 10 games, something is wrong.”Guardiola acknowledged about Manchester City’s current situation.
And in addition to the five games lost by Manchester City in this edition of the Premier League, they have added two other losses in the Champions League plus a setback, also against Manchester United, in the FA Cup.
The current Premier League champions are in fifth place in the standings this season, last with a place for European competition next season, with a record of eight wins, three draws and five losses for 27 points, nine less than the leader, Liverpool.
Guardiola and his team still have three games left in 2024: Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester (all for the local tournament) to try to close the year in the best way and look to start 2025 in a better state of mind.
