More than 45,000 people have died in the Gaza Strip since the war began, October 7, 2023according to the latest hospital figures published this Monday by the Ministry of Health of the enclave, governed by Hamas, a group considered terrorist by the United States and the European Union.
According to the count, at least 52 bodies arrived at Gazan morgues in the last 24 hours. Additionally, another 203 Palestinians were injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza over the past day.
Since the war began, more than 14 months ago, 45,028 people have been killed and 106,962 injured by Israel’s attacks. Health authorities also estimate that the bodies of some 11,000 missing people remain buried under the rubble.
One of the deadliest attacks in recent hours, which left at least 20 bodies, was a bombing against a school in Khan Yunis, in the south of the enclave.
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) warned that almost a million Palestinians face the arrival of winter without shelterwhich exposes them to hypothermia and other diseases. “Hundreds of thousands of displaced families are enduring the cold and rain of winter without adequate protection. The Israeli authorities’ repeated refusal to provide basic materials for shelter construction prevents us from expanding our response to build emergency shelters that can withstand winter conditions,” Jeroen Quanjer, NRC shelter officer, said in a statement.
The group detailed that, from September to the end of November, only 123 trucks with aid for shelters entered Gaza. (an average of ten trucks per week), which also included items not related to winter conditions, such as mattresses or sheets.
The situation has been aggravated by the Israeli siege of the north of the enclave, which began in early October and is still ongoing, forcing thousands of Palestinians to leave the area for the south.
