After a long time of waiting, The Sundance Institute has finally released the list of projects selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festivalwhich will take place from January 23 to February 2 in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
In this new edition of the renowned festival, For 11 days, the global debut of various projects that bring new voices, entertaining stories and innovative works to the screen will take place.
“The Festival is our most important public program as an Institute and is based on the work of supporting artists. We do it year-round as a nonprofit organization seeking to make meaningful storytelling accessible and sustainable.“said Amanda Kelso, interim executive director of the Sundance Institute. “Our curation speaks to the breadth and depth of cinema today, and the work of the selected artists shows the potential of storytelling to drive change through open dialogue while engaging audiences.”
According to the statement, 87 feature films representing 33 countries and territories will be included in the 2025 edition. Additionally, it will serve as the debut of 36 feature film directors.
Latin talent shines among the winners of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival
“This year’s program features stories that confront many critical issues of our time, encouraging us to look both inward and outward. As always, we’re excited to introduce audiences to new voices, along with new work from some familiar names”said Kim Yutani, director of programming at the Sundance Film Festival. “Festival audiences are not going to encounter unexpected things, too, with stories to feel entertained, challenged and moved by this year’s films.”
The Latin voices that will be heard at the Sundance Film Festival 2025
The Latin community continues to add achievements internationally and for the Sundance Film Festival 2025, several representatives with Latin roots were brought together to serve as witnesses to this fact.
On this occasion, names such as: Laura Casabe, Isabel Castro, Cristina Costantini, Pasqual Gutierrez, Addison Heimann, Gregory Nava, Jennifer Tiexiera, Amalia Ulman, Joel Alfonso Vargas and Gala del Solto mention a few.
This year’s list of 93 selected works was chosen from nearly 16,000 submissions, many of which feature Latino filmmakers, artists or stories, check out some of them here:
• Kiss of the Spider Woman – Valentín, a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unexpected bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring her favorite big screen diva, Ingrid Luna. Cast: Diego Luna, Tonatiuh, Jennifer López, Bruno Bichir, Josefina Scaglione, Aline Mayagoitia.
• Mad Bills to Pay (or Destiny, tell him I’m not bad) – Rico’s summer is a mix between chasing girls and grabbing homemade cocktails from a cooler in Orchard Beach, the Bronx. But when Destiny, his teenage girlfriend, stays at his house with her family, it’s only a matter of time before his carefree days come crashing down. Cast: Juan Collado, Destino Checo, Yohanna Florentino, Nathaly Navarro.

• Rains Over Babel – A group of misfits converge on Babel, a legendary bar that also functions as purgatory, where La Flaca, the city’s Grim Reaper, presides. Here, souls risk years of their lives with it, daring to outwit Death itself. Cast: Saray Rebolledo, Felipe Aguilar Rodríguez, John Alex Castillo, William Hurtado, Santiago Pineda, Celina Biurrun.
• Selena and The Dinos — Selena Quintanilla, the “Queen of Tejano Music,” and her family band, Selena y Los Dinos, went from performing at quinceañeras to selling out stadium tours. The celebration of his life and legacy is told through never-before-seen images from the family’s personal archive.
• Serious People – A successful music video director and father-to-be takes his work-life balance to the extreme by hiring a stuntman to work in his place. Cast: Pasqual Gutiérrez, Christine Yuan, Miguel Huerta, Raúl Sánchez.
• The Virgin of Quarry Lake —In 2001, three teenagers from the outskirts of Buenos Aires fall in love with Diego. Natalia has always had the best chemistry with him, but when it seems inevitable that their friendship will turn into something more, the older and more experienced Silvia appears and soon catches Diego’s attention. Cast: Dolores Oliverio, Luisa Merelas, Fernanda Echevarría, Dady Brieva, Agustín Sosa.
