A new page of violence was experienced in Mexico, after The judge of the Superior Court of Justice of the state of Guerrero, Edmundo Román Pinzón, was shot to death as he left the family courts, located near Caleta beach, in the traditional area of the port of Acapulco.
The magistrate was known for his work in criminal matters, where he supervised sentences and ruled on the legal status of the accused. Besides, He had an extensive career within the justice system of the state of Guerrero, holding various positions.
According to security reports, the homicide occurred at 3:20 p.m. when the former president of the Superior Court of Justice was leaving the parking lot of the family courts in his white vehicle when he was attacked by gunfire.
The magistrate’s body was left in the passenger seat when he was hit by a firearm. crashing the vehicle into a red truck, so his attackers fled.
Ministerial police located 13 shell casings of 9 millimeter caliber, the body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for the corresponding legal procedures.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Guerrero confirmed that an investigation file was opened for the crime of homicide and that no people have been arrested yet.
However, The Guerrero Public Security Secretariat activated the red code in Acapulco, after the murder of Román Pinzón.
The activation of the strategic device includes intensive patrolling, installation of review filters, real-time monitoring through the video surveillance system to identify and arrest generators of violence and guarantee security.
Edmundo Román was appointed president of the Superior Court of Justice on May 10, 2006, when Zeferino Torreblanca Galindo was governor, however, he was currently a magistrate of the justice department.
The motive for the attack is unknown at this time.; However, it is known that Román Pinzón was recognized for his legal rigor and his focus on high-profile cases, which made him a key figure within the Guerrero judicial system.
