To represent the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the third and final time, Supervisor Janice Hahn was sworn in yesterday during a ceremony in the county courtroom named for her father Kenneth Hahn.

During the ceremony, the supervisor addressed the Latino community she represents and which is now the majority in District 4 with 59% of the population.

“While I don’t speak your language, I am committed to your communities,” explained Supervisor Hahn. “For a better tomorrow for you and your families.”

The supervisor added that the Los Angeles County electorate has voted for her with hope and optimism, and for her ability to fight for a healthier, safer and more just county.

“They have looked around, they have recognized that our challenges are great, but they have stated that they believe we are capable of solving them,” Hahn said. “I feel very honored and grateful to the voters of District 4 who have put their trust in me by electing me once again.”

The supervisor added that they have worked to give a voice to those who do not have one, defend the disadvantaged and to try to do the right thing, even in not so popular situations.

The oath was administered by his brother, former Mayor of Los Angeles, the Honorable James K. Hahn, and enriched with remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

“I have known Supervisor Hahn for years, seeing her fight up close in Washington, on the Metro board and in the County Hall, named after her father, whose legacy continues to expand with pride,” he said. Mayor Bass. “Supervisor Hahn knows that, at the end of the day, results are what we must deliver to the people of the county and the region, and that is exactly what she has done as supervisor and throughout her life.”

During his remarks, Hahn thanked his colleagues, county department heads, mayors of cities in his district and others for their support. Many of those he thanked were present at the ceremony, which began with a procession of flags from each of the 32 cities Hahn represents, carried by mayors and city council members.

The supervisor also gave special recognition to the cities in Southeast Los Angeles that joined her district after the last round of district map redesign in 2021.

Among Hahn’s priorities for his latest term are issues such as environmental health, Metro’s future Southeast Gateway line, and mental health, among others. Additionally, she emphasized addressing the homelessness crisis in the county, and invited city leaders to collaborate with her to provide solutions.

She thanked voters for her re-election and recognized the mandate they have given her and other city and county leaders by approving Measure A, which is expected to generate $1.1 billion per year through a tax on half-cent sales.

The ceremony also included a tribute to his father Kenneth Hahn, who served on the Board of Supervisors for four decades. Hahn’s uncle, Gordon Hahn, served in the California State Assembly and his brother James served as mayor of Los Angeles from 2001 to 2005. January will mark 78 years of uninterrupted service by the Hahns in elected office.
