Venezuela rejects US sanctions against 21 “patriots” after election results

The Government of Venezuela rejected the sanctions imposed by the United States against 21 of its officials and assured that the Caribbean country “can never be defeated” by Washington, which accused the sanctioned group of “repression” and trying to “steal” the elections in which Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed the winner.

In a statement, The Venezuelan Executive expressed that the “unilateral coercive measures” announced against a “group of patriots” represent a “desperate act of a decadent and erratic Government, which seeks to hide its resounding electoral failure and the serious social crisis in which it leaves the” North American country.

“These measures do not promote democracy in Venezuela”But they seek to give a last breath to a dispersed and discredited fascist group that has no roots in the Venezuelan population, in order to prolong its failed policy of regime change,” Caracas said, without specifying who he is referring to.

The Maduro Government reiterated that, almost four months ago, it obtained a “great popular victory” in the elections, whose results have not yet been published by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in a disaggregated manner, which has been questioned by numerous countries. , even allies like Brazil and Colombia.

Treasury Department sanctions

Among the list of people sanctioned by the Treasury Department is the Minister of Office of the Presidency, Aníbal Coronado; that of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez, and that of Penitentiary Services, Julio García Zerpa. Also, there are senior officers of the Bolivarian National Guard, the Bolivarian National Police, the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) and the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM), whom he accuses of “violently repressing peaceful demonstrations” after the elections.

Among them is Alexis Rodríguez Cabello, director of SEBIN and cousin of the Minister of the Interior, Diosdado Cabello, and also the head of the DGCIM and the Presidential Honor Guard, Javier Marcana Tabata. From the family of the Minister of the Interior, his daughter, Daniella Cabello, president of the Country Brand and the Export Promotion Agency.

Under this decision, all personal properties of the sanctioned persons in the United States are blocked and it is prohibited to carry out financial transactions with these persons. To date, the US Treasury has sanctioned 150 Venezuelan individuals and a hundred entities in the Caribbean country for undertaking “antidemocratic actions.”
