LeBron James recorded a triple-double (16 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds) to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 119-101 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. This result ended a streak of three consecutive losses for the Angelenos.
Anthony Davis also shined with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds, while rookie Dalton Knecht led the attack with 20 points, including four triples.
The Lakers took advantage of their superiority in the paint and the experience of their figures to overcome a San Antonio team led by young star Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Although the Lakers had a 15-point lead in the first half, the Spurs attempted a comeback that was neutralized by Austin Reaves’ decisive triple over Frenchman Wembanyama at the end of the second quarter, leaving the score 58-47.
Lakers boosted themselves with LeBron James and Dalton Knecht
The crucial moment came in the third quarter, when Dalton Knecht stood out with a double impact play: a floater that extended the lead and a steal from Wembanyama that culminated in a spectacular dunk by Davis. This put the Lakers up 73-63, controlling the pace of the game.
The Spurs, who had dominated the third quartersthey could not maintain that level against some effective Lakers who surpassed them 34-30 in that period.
James, who had a discreet start with just four points in the first half, emerged in the fourth quarter. He scored eight of his 12 second-half points in crucial moments, securing the victory for the Lakers.
Despite the efforts of rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, who had a double-double, and Devin Vassell who returned with 14 points after his injury, the Spurs were unable to contain the Lakers’ multiple offense.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ next game will be against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that is a strong candidate for the NBA title. This match will be part of the group stage of the NBA Cup.
