Through a letter, Mr. John Sauer — an appeals lawyer whom Donald Trump appointed as attorney general — asked Letitia James, attorney general of New York, to dismiss the corporate fraud case against him a few months ago.
At the beginning of this year, Judge Arthur Engoron announced his decision to sanction Donald Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, as well as the Trump Organization with $464 million.for having committed fraud by altering the financial statements of his company to obtain benefits and access bank loans.
By refusing to pay the penalty against him, Attorney General Letitia James even threatened to seize some of his properties to the New York tycoon. However, his team of lawyers decided to launch an appeal process.
Once Trump was elected president of the nation, the possibility of dismissing three other legal proceedings against him opened up. derived from an alleged intervention in the 2020 lessons, for allegedly having improperly handled documents that put the security of the nation at risk and also for having paid a former porn film star not to disclose details about the relationship established between both and then try to make said disbursement of money appear as a payment of fees to his former lawyer.
When analyzing that continuing with the legal processes could be considered unconstitutional interference, affecting the duties of the president, special prosecutor Jack Smith agreed not to continue with the cases in his charge; and Judge Juan Merchan indefinitely postponed the sentence against the Republican winner of the November 5 elections.
Based on this, Mr. John Sauer asked prosecutor Letitia James to follow the same path.
“Following his historic election victory, President Trump has called for an end to partisan fighting in our nation and for warring factions to join forces for the common good of the country.
This call for unity extends to the legal onslaught against him and his family that permeated the most recent election cycle.
As President Trump’s attorney in this appeal—and now as his nominee for Attorney General of the United States—I have had the opportunity to experience this partisan divide firsthand, and I firmly believe that it is necessary for the health of our Republic that conflicts and legal disputes end”, wrote.
