United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a significant drug seizure at the Brownsville port of entry, when a young woman attempted to cross the border from the Mexican city of Matamoros.
According to a statement from the authorities, the detained person is 21 years old and a US citizen. He tried to cross the Gateway International Bridge aboard a vehicle in which they were hidden 43 packages with methamphetamines, valued at 1.1 million dollars.
The unit was inspected by CBP personnel, who decided to do a second inspection, but now with a canine pair and a non-intrusive inspection system.
That’s how the officers discovered that there were 43 hidden packages inside the vehicle, which contained 124.29 pounds of methamphetamine.
Tater Ortiz, director of the Brownsville port of entry, said: “This significant methamphetamine seizure underscores the commitment of our officers in maintaining our border security mission and the results achieved through the effective application of training, experience and technology of CBP officers.”
Although the identity of the detained young woman was not released, The authorities are investigating the destination of the drugs and to which criminal group the narcotics belonged.
It should be noted that this is not the first drug seizure of the year at the Gateway International Bridge, since last August CBP officers seized 3 shipments of cocaine with an approximate value of $700,000.
