At least 23 people lost their lives yesterday Sunday when a bus fell into a ravine on a remote mountain road in the state of Alagoas, Brazil, regional authorities indicated.
Rescue services confirmed that 22 people died at the scene and another person, A pregnant woman died after being taken to the hospitalthe Alagoas government said in a statement.
Brazilian media reported that “dozens” of people were injured and the bus was carrying 40 passengers. The accident occurred near the city of Uniao dos Palmares.
The state governor, Paulo Dantas, declared on the social network X three days of mourning for the “tragedy.”
The bus went off the road in an area that was difficult to access, in a mountainous area called Serra da Barriga.
