The Republican Matt Gaetz, who declined Donald Trump’s nomination to appoint him attorney general, rules out returning to Congresssince he considers that his cycle has reached the end.

Earlier this month after the president-elect tapped him to lead the Department of Justice, Matthew Louis Gaetz II resigned from his seat in the House of Representatives.

However, His appointment revived an investigation against him related to an alleged relationship with a minor and drug use.

This scandal prompted the House Ethics Committee to take action on the matter, but when it was about to publish a report on its investigation, the 42-year-old Republican declined Trump’s offer.

“I appreciate your valuable comments and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the crucial work of the Trump/Vance transition.

There is no time to waste in an unnecessarily protracted fight in Washington, so I will withdraw my name from consideration for the position of attorney general. “Trump’s Justice Department must be up and running from day one,” the conservative wrote on platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

There was later speculation that Gaetz could return to the House next year after winning re-election this fall, but during an interview with “The Charlie Kirk Show” in Real America’s Voicethe former congressman ruled out taking another step back in his political career.

“I will continue in the fight, but I will do so from a new position. I have no intention of joining the 119th Congress.

There are many fantastic Floridians who have run for my seat, people who have inspired with their heroism and public service. And I’m really excited to see Northwest Florida reach new heights and have great representation.

I’m going to fight for President Trump. I’m going to do everything you ask of me, like I’ve always done, but I think eight years is probably enough time in the United States Congress.”, he expressed.

In this regard, the television network cnnpoints out that Matt Gaetz’s decision could have arisen as a result of statements made by a young woman to the House Ethics Committee, where close sources assured her that she declared having had two sexual encounters with the Republican when she was 17 years old, which which would be a serious crime.
