The US embassy in kyiv has decided to temporarily close its headquarters after having received “specific” information about a possible “major” air attack on the city, this Wednesday (11/20/2024), following Russia’s promise to respond to the launch of a long-range US missile by Ukraine against its territory .
“The US Embassy in kyiv has received specific information about a possible major airstrike on November 20. As a precautionary measure, the embassy will be closed,” warns the diplomatic legation in a statement addressed to US citizens.
He also assures that “instructions have been given to embassy employees to take shelter in place. “The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens be prepared to take shelter immediately in the event an air alert is announced.”
The legation also advises taking some measures in the event of an attack, such as monitoring local media for updates, identifying shelter locations before any air alert, taking shelter immediately if an air alert is announced, or following the instructions of the Ukrainian officials and emergency services.
The embassy’s message comes days after Joe Biden’s administration, according to various media, authorizes kyiv to use ATACMS long-range missiles against Russian territory, which represents a turning point in the war that began in February 2022 and that yesterday, Tuesday, turned 1,000 days old.
These missiles were already used this Tuesday by the Ukrainian army, according to the Kremlin, which has accused the US of “adding fuel to the fire” in this conflict.
American media also claim that Biden, who will hand over power to Republican Donald Trump on January 20, approved the supply of antipersonnel landmines to Ukraine.
The Spanish embassy in kyiv also closes to the public
The Spanish Embassy in kyiv announced this Wednesday that it will not provide services during the day, due to the “increased risk of air attacks occurring throughout Ukraine,” as announced by the diplomatic legation in an email sent to Spaniards residing in Ukraine.
In his email to Spanish residents, The Spanish Embassy recommends that you “extend security measures.””, that they comply with all the recommendations of the local authorities, that they always have a shelter located.”
