Municipal fair in Michoacán canceled after attack by “monster trucks” on the mayor's office

Violence in Mexico is overflowing, in recent days organized crime has shown that nothing matters to it and has attacked different places, one of them was in the state of Michoacán, where for years barbaric conditions have been experienced that seem to have no end. This new attack also caused the cancellation of the Zinapécuaro municipal fair.

The traditional fair in Zinapécuaro, Michoacán, known as Expo Fiesta 2024 and which would take place from November 17 to 20, has been canceled. At the same time, the First Zinapécuaro Athletic Race would take place, which was also canceled in order to safeguard the safety of those attending.

The attacks

In the early hours of November 15, a violent day was recorded in Zinapécuaro, with clashes and blockades in different parts of the town. A convoy of three vehicles with artisanal armor left a suitcase with human remains in front of the Municipal Palaceaccording to the N+ site.

In addition, they set fire to a truck right in front of a door to the Municipal Palace. Images of the attack circulated on social networks, showing gunshot wounds to the windows and façade of the municipal palace.

The house of culture and the facades of several homes and businesses in the downtown area were also hit by bullets.

During the attack, audios sent by municipal police circulated on social networks and WhatsApp: “It is strong… Support, they are pulling at us… In the Palace… They are already detonating in the presidency”can be heard in one of the audios.

The criminals aboard the convoy left a vehicle on fire and demolished the communication tower. They also made road blockades and placed tire punctures to avoid being hit.

Attacks against police officers were also recorded in Zinapécuaro and Queréndaro, one of the officers dying inside a patrolwhile his partner was injured and is hospitalized.

The explosions caused panic among neighbors and people who were at the scene of the clashes. The municipal authorities reported that at 8:30 a.m. the situation was already under control “thanks to the timely intervention of the authorities.

For its part, the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of Michoacán announced the deployment of elements of the Civil Guard in both areas, since “Acts of this nature will not be tolerated, which are reactions to various deployments and seizures carried out in recent days. in both municipalities.”

According to local media, the C5 cameras recorded the moment when armored “monster” trucks entered Zinapécuaro with men armed with AK-47 and AR-15 rifles.

Call to safety

Through a statement, the municipal government made a strong call to the government of Mexico and the government of Michoacán, “to implement a joint strategy that guarantees security for each citizen.”

In addition to suspending the Expo Fiesta 2024 and the First Athletics Race, classes were suspended again in the municipalityas happened on November 5, after the violent early morning of clashes, incineration of vehicles and narco-blockades on highways in Queréndaro, Álvaro Obregón, Maravatío and Zinapécuaro.

According to El Blog del Narco, a source from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that the attack was carried out by a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), but the agency has not officially confirmed it.
