Latin Grammy: The multiple celebrations for Carlos Vives in his special week

Carlos Vives lived an unforgettable week full of tributes and celebrations within the framework of the Latin Grammy 2024, where he was recognized as Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy.

The distinction not only highlighted his impressive career of more than three decades, but also his impact on Latin music and his commitment to social causes. During the week, various events were held in his honor, including a star-studded gala at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Artists such as Sebastián Yatra, Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra and Julieta Venegas came together to pay tribute to his musical legacy.

The week started with a philanthropic touch

On November 8, the Latin GRAMMY® Cultural Foundation, together with Carlos Vives, held an educational event at Miami Senior High School, Florida. During the event, which included the donation of musical instruments, students paid tribute to Vives by performing “La Gota Fría.”

The activity highlighted the impact of the program Latin GRAMMY In The Schoolswhich connects young people with Latin music professionals. Sponsored by Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Sony Music, the program seeks to promote equity in music education in vulnerable communities, offering resources and opportunities to train the next generation of Latin artists.

An intimate party with friends

On the night of November 8, WK Entertainment and Loud and Live, among other organizations, held a special event in Miami Beach to celebrate the iconic “Rock de mi Pueblo” singer.

The evening began with a dazzling red carpet where Carlos Vives posed with his wife, Claudia Elena Vásquez, captivating those present with his charisma and elegance. Subsequently, prominent music industry executives, including Walter Kolm, his manager, took the stage to share emotional words about the artist’s career, highlighting his influence on Latin music and his ability to connect with millions of fans.

A tribute was also paid to Egidio Cuadrado, the artist’s accordionist, who died on October 21.

The Person of the Year ceremony

On November 13, the Latin Recording Academy honored Vives as Person of the Year 2024 in an emotional gala held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The evening featured performances by notable artists such as Edgar Barrera, María Becerra, David Bisbal, Rubén Blades, Juan Luis Guerra, Alejandro Sanz, Julieta Venegas and Sebastián Yatra, among many others.

The event, which marked the 25th anniversary of this prestigious recognition, brought together stars from various genres who performed some of Vives’ most iconic hits. Memorable moments included Los Fabulosos Cadillacs with “Carito,” Julieta Venegas and María Becerra with a folk version of “Cumbiana,” and Wisin alongside Emilia and Goyo in an urban medley of “Tu Amor Eterno.”

Vives, winner of multiple Grammys and Latin Grammys, was recognized not only for his musical career, but also for his commitment to social and environmental causes. Funds raised will benefit the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, which supports scholarships and educational programs.

The tribute preceded the 25th Latin GRAMMY Awards.

On Latin Grammy night, Vives dazzled with an emotional performance of some of his classics, including “Fruta Fresca,” “La Bicicleta,” “Tierra del Olvido,” “Volví a Nacer,” “Robarte un Beso,” and “Pa “Mayte”.

The award ceremony for Bon Jovi

During the Latin GRAMMYs ceremony, the iconic singer John Bon Jovi was in charge of presenting the Person of the Year recognition to Carlos Vives.

With an emotional introduction, Bon Jovi highlighted the importance of music and the global impact of the Colombian artist. Addressing Vives, he expressed: “Music unites people around the world. One of the greatest joys of my career has been having the opportunity to travel through Latin America and experience the warmth, passion and passion of the people. Carlos: For decades you have personified this spirit, using your voice to create a better world through your music.
