As he had announced during the campaign, the president-elect Donald Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr.an anti-vaccine activist who dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Trump stressed on his social network, Truth Social, that vCaring for the health of citizens is the most important position in the Administration and highlighted that “for too long Americans have been crushed by the industrial food system and pharmaceutical companies that have engaged in deception and misinformation when it comes to public health.”
“I am delighted to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and United States Human Services (HHS),” he wrote.
During his presidential campaign, Kennedy became known nationally for his criticism of the Covid vaccine and childhood immunizations. He has claimed that vaccines are linked to autism, even though decades of studies have refuted that claim.
Despite his insipid campaign, last August Kennedy Jr. suspended his independent presidential bid and instead endorsed Donald Trump, who now appoints him in an area of great national interest.
It is worth remembering that After Trump won in 2016, Kennedy told reporters that the Republican promised to let him chair a vaccine commission.but that never happened.
However, for days, the president-elect had announced that on this occasion, Kennedy would play a role in his new administration in health matters, but he had not been specific about what that means, until this Wednesday.
Kennedy Jr. is the son of the late Attorney General and Senator Robert Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, both with strong ties to the Democratic party, which is why on several occasions he has acknowledged that his decision to support Trump had caused tensions in his family.
