An arbitration judge confirmed sanctions against Rimas Sports, focused on its main executives.

Noah Assad and Jonathan Miranda have been suspended for five years. While William Arroyo, the company’s only certified baseball agent, has had his suspension reduced to three years.

Judge Ruth M. Moscovitch on October 30, issued the sanction after an investigation carried out by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA).

The investigation revealed that Rimas Sports had offered inappropriate incentives to players, thus violating MLBPA regulations.

Among the irregular practices detected There are interest-free loans, cash gifts, concert tickets and other benefits granted to players with the aim of recruiting them or influencing their decisions.

What did Judge Moscovitch say?

Judge Moscovitch called these actions “serious violations” and stressed that she had never before witnessed so many irregularities in a single case.

“I find that the MLBPA has met its burden of proving the alleged violations.” of the regulations with substantial evidence in the record as a whole,” the judge wrote.

“There is no doubt that these are serious violationsboth in the number of violations and the range of misconduct. “As MLBPA Executive Director Anthony Clark testified, he has never seen so many violations of so many different regulations over a significant period of time.”

The MLBPA had initiated disciplinary actions against Rimas Sports executives in April of this year, revoked Arroyo’s agent certification and denied certification to Assad and Miranda.

The agency appealed the decision, but Judge Moscovitch upheld the initial sanctions, with the exception of reducing Arroyo’s suspension.

In her ruling, Judge Moscovitch noted that although these types of gifts are common in the entertainment industry, are strictly prohibited by MLBPA regulations when offered to players.

Arroyo’s clients included two New York Mets players: catcher Francisco Álvarez and infielder Ronny Mauricio. There were other players like Ezequiel Tovar and Ronald Acuña Jr.
