Trump picks veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary

The elected president donald trump appointed on Tuesday Pete HegsethFox News host and military veteran, as his candidate for secretary of defense.

In a statement, Trump described Hegseth as “tough, smart and a true believer in the principle of America first.”

“With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice: Our military will be great again, and America will never give up,” Trump said.

The president-elect has named a wave of candidates for his second administration in a few days.

Trump announced Tuesday that he would nominate former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to be director of the CIA.

He also reported that he chose former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel and his old friend Steven Witkoff as special envoy to the Middle East.

Trump also said he would nominate the governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem to head the Department of Homeland Security and appointed Bill McGinleyhis cabinet secretary in his first administration, as his White House legal advisor.

The elected president donald trump said Tuesday that he has chosen Elon Muskwhich will work together with Vivek Ramaswamyto lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and will be tasked with dismantling the apparatus of government bureaucracy, eliminating regulations and cutting unnecessary spending.

On Monday, he chose Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., as his nominee for U.N. ambassador and said he would nominate Lee Zeldin, a former House Republican from New York, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

On Sunday, he named immigration hardliner Tom Homan as his “border czar.”

The Trump administration’s first major announcement came last week, when it said Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, would be White House chief of staff.
