The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned this Monday that its name and logos are being used today, election day in the United States, to promote electoral misinformation..
Faced with this situation, the FBI asked citizens to preferably go to “reliable sources, such as their local electoral office,” in addition to reporting suspicious information.
In a statement, The FBI collects two cases of disinformation and what it calls “false narratives”: The first consists of a lack of warning of terrorist danger in some schools that would have led the FBI to recommend remote voting. Although the police do not specify which schools they are referring to, they affirm that “the video is not authentic.”
It has also detected a second video with an alleged press release from the FBI in which it is falsely stated that the prison administration of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona was rigging the votes of inmates in collusion with a political party (which is not identifies). “The video is not authentic, and its content is false,” warns the FBI.
The police institution remembers that the integrity of the electoral process is among its main prioritiesand regrets these attempts to disseminate false content because “they undermine the democratic process and erode confidence in the electoral system.”
