Singer Billie Eilish paused her concert in Atlanta to send a clear and forceful message to her followers: voting is crucial.
The event, part of their “Hit Me Hard and Soft” tour, took place at the State Farm Arena on November 2, just a few days before the November 5 elections. During the show, Eilish took advantage of her platform to express her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, noting that “the times are really scary and the stakes are high”. She added that she hopes those who support her, especially those who support women’s rights, will also support Harris.
In a video shared on social networks by the Democratic Party, the artist is seen speaking to a dedicated crowd. “If you are here and support me, I hope you also support Kamala Harris”Eilish said, provoking a standing ovation from the audience. It is not the first time that the “Bad Guy” singer has spoken out in favor of the vice president. In September, on National Voter Registration Day, Billie and her brother Finneas had released a video explaining their reasons for supporting Harris and candidate Tim Walz, defending issues such as reproductive freedom, environmental care and the protection of the democracy.
The artist stressed that this election is of utmost importance for fundamental issues that affect her generation. “Vote as if your life depended on it, because it really does”he emphasized in the September video.
For Eilish, defending rights is personal and part of her principles, and she decided to use her fame to motivate others to act. Eilish’s message appears to be especially strategic, as Georgia is one of the most contested states in this election. Any additional support in this state could prove decisive.
Additionally, in an additional gesture of support, Harris and Walz’s campaign received permission to use the song “When the Party’s Over” in an ad about reproductive rights. This video shows the story of a young woman who suffered an unwanted pregnancy due to assault and highlights how the ruling against Roe v. Wade, pushed by Donald Trump, eliminated options for women in similar situations.
With the final leg of her tour in North America and several concerts scheduled in her hometown, Los Angeles, Billie Eilish continues to bring her music to every corner. But this time, it’s not just about entertainment: Eilish seeks to inspire her followers to use their voice and their vote.
