How to use the new private spaces in Android 15

The arrival of Android 15 brings an interesting feature for users who are looking improve your privacy on Android devices: private spaces. This tool allows you to create an isolated environment inside your phone where you can save specific applications that only you can access. Next, we explain how to configure the Android 15 private spaces and how this functionality can help you improve the security of your personal data.

What is private space in Android 15?

The private space of Android 15 acts as a sort of independent vault for apps that you want to keep out of other people’s access. Unlike a conventional screen lock, which protects general access to your device, the private space adds a second layer of security. This is useful if you ever need to borrow your phone and don’t want the user to access certain apps, like photos, messages, or your browsing history.

Android 15 allows Private Space to work almost like a standalone deviceisolating the data in these apps from the rest of your phone, increasing protection in case the device is lost or stolen.

How to configure private space in Android 15

1. Access security and privacy settings

To activate this feature, open your device’s Settings and go to Security & privacy> Private space. Here You’ll see a brief description of the functionality along with some options to customize the settings. Select Configure to get started.

2. Select a Google account

You can choose to use your main Google account or create a new one specifically for the private space. This option is useful if you prefer that data in this section (such as photos or browsing history) not automatically sync with other devices. If you decide to use a different account, be sure to tap Got it to confirm your choice.

3. Set the authentication method

When setting up private space, Android 15 will allow you to choose an additional authentication method. You can choose to set a new PIN, pattern, or biometric authentication specifically for this space or, if you prefer, use your phone’s screen lock method.

4. Complete the setup

Once the above options have been chosen, The private space will activate and show the available applications, including some from Google such as Google Chrome and Google Photos. From here, every time you want to access your private space, you just have to swipe to the bottom of the application drawer, tap the lock icon and authenticate.

Advanced private space settings

Once the private space is created, you can customize it further:

Add or remove applications

To add applications to the private space, you must install them directly from this section. It works as a separate device, so apps installed on the rest of the system won’t automatically appear here. If you need to uninstall an app, long-press the icon and select Uninstall.

Set up notifications

Notifications from apps in your private space are only displayed when your private space is unlocked. This ensures that sensitive notifications are kept hidden when the space is closed.

Hide private space

If you prefer that no one else know about the existence of your private space, you can hide it from the app drawer. Go to Hide private space and select this option. Once activated, you can only find the private space by manually searching for it in the search bar of the app drawer.

Private Space in Android 15 offers a protected and separate environmentmaking it a robust privacy tool for users concerned about keeping their data safe.
