The Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaumresponded to Ken Salazar, United States ambassador to Mexico about the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, recorded on July 25 in the state of Texas, and assured that “the end does not justify the means.”

The Mexican president reacted to the statements of Ken Salazar, who on Tuesday said that the arrest of the leader of the Sinaloa cartel should be seen as a victory, both for Mexico and for the United States.

Salazar’s statements came after the Mexican prosecutor, Alejandro Gertz Manero, assured that the arrest of “El Mayo” Zambada was a “kidnapping.”

“I am so surprised that one cannot say victory for the people of Mexico, victory for the United States, the result of the work we have carried out in the last three years,” Salazar said.

“The end does not justify the means,” says Sheinbaum

“When we talk about respect for human rights, the rule of law, sovereignty, that is, the way you do things also has a bottom line, it is not just the end,” Sheinbaum claimed in his morning conference.

President Sheinbaum agreed with Gertz in his demands and insisted that the way in which the arrest was carried out is not correct, despite the fact that the United States denies any participation of a North American police force or agency in the operation.

“That is why institutions have been created, a constitution, the means are as important as the end, so the end does not justify the means,” Sheinbaum insisted.

The government of Mexico demands from the United States a detailed report on the circumstances of the apprehension of “El Mayo” Zambada, who was allegedly transferred by plane to Texas. It is linked to Joaquín Guzmán López, alias “El Güero”, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

After the arrest of the leader of the Sinaloa cartel became known, the Mexican government expressed its surprise and stated that it did not participate in the capture, which is why it demanded explanations from the US authorities.
