The 2024 edition of Miss Universe, which will take place in Mexico City, has announced a special event in honor of Mexican culture: the Gala de las Catrinas, to be held on November 1.

This event, organized for the first time in the contest, seeks to pay tribute to the tradition of the Day of the Dead and highlight the cultural roots of Mexico, the host country of this edition.

The gala will feature the participation of six renowned designers, who will present collections inspired by the iconic figure of Catrina.. During the evening, all Miss Universe candidates will parade in unique costumes, which highlight both the creativity and the richness of Mexican folklore. “Miss Universe celebrates a magical night of Mexican culture at the Gala de las Catrinas. “Six designers will present their impressive collections inspired by the Day of the Dead and all the Miss Universe candidates will walk the catwalk.”the organization shared in a statement that they also published on their Instagram page.

The event will not only be a visual spectacle, but will also include a musical display that will represent the pre-Hispanic and contemporary traditions of the Day of the Dead, with more than 80 actors on stage, accompanied by mariachis and a striking video mapping projection.

The philanthropic side

In addition to its cultural focus, the Gala de las Catrinas has an altruistic objective. The organization has announced that the funds raised will be allocated to Children, Women and Elders Protected AC, a Mexican foundation that supports the most vulnerable communities in the country. This combination of fashion, culture and philanthropy promises to make the night a memorable event at the emblematic Colegio de las Vizcaínas.

Osmel Sousa, advisor to the contest, highlighted the magnitude of the gala in a video: “They are throwing the house out of the window; “It’s going to be a gala, but something from another world.”
