The Los Angeles Dodgers took a heart-stopping Game 1 of the World Series, something that tips the balance in their chances of winning the title.
Historically, the team that takes Game 1 has won the majority of finals by over 65%. In 125 of 191 occasions, the team that wins the first game wins the World Series.
In all series under the 2-3-2 format, teams that won Game 1 at home took the series 68 of 101 times (67%).
How did the Dodgers do in the last three World Series?
The Dodgers won Game 1 in the 2020 World Series, ending up as champions against the Tampa Bay Rays. They also won against the Houston Astros in Game 1, although they lost in seven games in the 2017 World Series.
In 2018, Boston won the first game of the World Series against the Dodgers, a final that only lasted five games. Mookie Betts and Joe Kelly were on Boston’s team, both members of the Dodgers in 2024.
For their part, the New York Yankees know what it’s like to turn around a World Series after losing Game 1. In 2009, the Philadelphia Phillies won the first game at Yankee Stadium.
Then the Yankees won three in a row and in the sixth game of the series they got their 27th Major League ring.. Since then, 15 years have passed without the Yankees reaching the Major League finals.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto will look to lead the Dodgers this Saturday and arrive in New York with a 2-0 lead in the World Series.
For the Yankees, Carlos Rodón will start in Game 2. Rodón is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 5 appearances against the Dodgers in his career.
The last time Rodón faced the Dodgers was in 2022 and he was punished for five runs in 5.0 innings of work.
