Another battalion of 300 Army elements arrived in the city of Culiacán to reinforce security in Sinaloa, security sources reported.

The increase in troops occurs after soldiers killed 19 alleged hitmen of the Sinaloa Cartelsimilar to a cell Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

With this, since “El Mayo” Zambada was handed over to United States authorities, the Army has sent some 1,900 troops, including troops from the Special Forces and the National Guard, apart from those already assigned to the Ninth Military zone.

Sinaloa faces a wave of violence derived from the struggle between two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel: The Mayos and Los Chapitosafter the surrender to the United States authorities of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, last July.

Since that month, the federal government began sending 400 Special Forces elements to prevent clashes, but The clash between Los Mayos and Los Chapitos broke out on September 9 past, and to date there are a thousand reinforcements in the face of growing insecurity.

The anxiety has also triggered business robberies, fires and drug blockades. The deployment of the uniformed personnel is visible in stores, streets, avenues and commercial plazas in Culiacán and Mazatlán, mainly.

However, state authorities see relief with the arrival of the military.

“Culiacán is returning to normal with the reactivation of businesses and schools, where they report 75% attendance,” said the Secretary General of the Government, Feliciano Castro. “The security fence in Culiacán has worked and the violent events of recent days have occurred outside the city,” said the Chief of the State Police, Gerardo Mérida.
