Eva Longoria, renowned actress and producer, played a crucial role in the success of the iconic action film “John Wick,” which was released ten years ago.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, director Chad Stahelski revealed how the “Desperate Housewives” star unexpectedly stepped in to secure the financing the project needed to move forward.

Less than a week before filming began, the team behind “John Wick” found itself in a critical situation. The independent financing they had managed to raise collapsed when one of the investors was unable to raise the necessary amount in time.

“We lost almost $6 million in last-minute financing”Stahelski recalled.

Faced with this adversity, producer Basil Iwanyk reached his limits, using up to three credit cards in his attempt to keep the project afloat. It was at this time of uncertainty that the agency CAA offered some of its clients the opportunity to invest in the film. Longoria did not hesitate to take the initiative.

“She came to the rescue and provided last-minute financing, literally less than 24 hours before we had to close the doors on the film and leave.”Stahelski explained.

Recognition and promising future

The crew did not immediately know who had made the continuation of filming possible.

It was only after the release of “John Wick,” which became a smash hit, that Basil Iwanyk revealed the source of the financing. “We were joking about all the hardships we went through, and he mentioned, ‘By the way, do you know who financed the last part?’ Eva Longoria’. “We were stunned”confessed the director.

It was worth the investment

To thank Longoria for her support, Stahelski and her co-director David Leitch invited her to dinner at the Chateau Marmont, a well-known Hollywood restaurant. Over time, the impact of their investment proved to be significant, and the actress claimed that she had been “the best money I had ever spent”.

The “John Wick” saga proved to be a huge success at the box office, starting with the first installment that grossed $86 million, despite having a budget of only between $20 and $30 million. The sequels have followed the same trend of profitability, highlighted by “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which achieved a staggering $440 million in global revenue, on a budget of $100 million. Without a doubt, this franchise has captured the attention of the audience and cemented its place in the film industry.

Eva Longoria’s intervention not only saved the film, but also opened the doors to new collaborations in the future, as Stahelski expressed his desire to work with her on an action project.
