The president of China, Xi Jinping, inspected some facilities of the Chinese Army, to which urged it to increase its deterrent and combat capabilitiesaccording to state media in the Asian country.

On October 17, Xi visited an unidentified brigade that, according to the official agency Xinhua“is a strategic missile unit with more than fifty years of history that, since 2012, has strengthened its preparation in real combat conditions and has fulfilled a series of important tasks.”

During the inspection, The Chinese president visited the training camp to see the “newly introduced weapons and equipment” and then he gave a speech in which he asked to intensify the training of troops, as well as improve combat preparation and capabilities to safeguard national security and the main interests of the country, according to the source.

The announcement coincided with recent tensions with Taiwan and in the South China Sea, a frequent scene of clashes between Chinese and Philippine ships, and provoked protest reactions from countries in the region such as Japan and New Zealand.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Rocket Force is in charge of missiles – both conventional and nuclear systems – from Chinaa country that on September 25 carried out the first public launch in decades. It launched an intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with an explosive warhead in Pacific waters, which landed in the planned area and with which it was intended to “test the effectiveness of weapons and military training”, two objectives that were achieved, according to the Chinese Ministry of Defense. This entity has not specified, since then, either the route that the missile followed or the exact place where it fell.

The extreme opacity of China’s nuclear program has drawn criticism from countries such as the United States, which estimates that China has more than 500 operational nuclear warheads and could double this number by 2030.
