Trump serves fries at McDonald's and claims Harris never worked at one

The Republican candidate for the White House, Former President Donald Trump campaigned this Sunday at a McDonald’s store in the key state of Pennsylvania where he accused his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, of lying about her work history.

The visit, just over two weeks before Election Day, was designed to mock Harris, who has spoken about having worked at one of the fast-food chain’s restaurants when she was younger, despite this, Trump accused Harris of lying about the experience as a way to boost her credibility as a member of the working class.

During his experience, Trump traded in his suit jacket for an apron and received a brief instruction from a cook. Then he took over the fryer, tossed two batches of potatoes into hot oil and waited for them to cook. He largely followed the instructions, although he forgot to completely drain the oil from one batch and seemed to be more generous with the salt.

Trump then turned his attention to the drive-thru window, filling various orders and chatting with customers passing by in their cars.

“This is not a normal situation, is it?” he commented, before assuring customers that they would not have to pay for their food and bragging that he had prepared their fries himself.

“There will be no charge,” he said. “Trump is paying for it… This is all Trump’s fault, can I do it?”

“I love McDonalds. I love jobs. And I think it is inappropriate when someone says everywhere that they worked at a McDonald’s (…) but they never worked at a McDonald’s,” said the Republican about his Democratic rival.

According to the Harris campaign, the vice president worked during the summer of 1983 at a McDonald’s in the city of Alameda (California), working the cash register and cooking French fries, to pay for her studies at Howard University in Washington.

Harris, who has not offered more details on the matter, usually explains this story to show closeness to the working classes and distance herself from Trump, a real estate magnate who inherited his father’s empire.

Harris spokesman Ian Sams responded, saying, “When Trump feels desperate, the only thing he knows how to do is lie… “He can’t understand what it’s like to have a summer job because he was given millions on a silver platter and then he wasted it.”

It should be noted that Harris does not mention her experience at McDonald’s in her memoirs and apparently the first time she spoke about it in public was in her first presidential campaign in 2019, when she joined the striking workers of that company in Las Vegas.

This is not the first time that Trump has shown his predilection for fast food. During the government shutdown in 2019, he served pizzas from McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and Domino’s on silver platters to welcome and celebrate the national champions. Notably, on this occasion, the franchise was closed during Sunday’s visit and it was not immediately clear how the drive-thru customers served by Trump were selected.

In a statement, owner and operator Derek Giacomantonio said he decided to participate in the Trump campaign event because “it is a core value of my organization that we proudly open our doors to all who visit the Feasterville community.” ”.
