Juan Soto hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning to break a tense tie and The New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 to win the American League championship for the first time in 15 years.

The Yankees, who won the series in five games, the last three full of drama, are by far the most successful team in Major League history, but they have not reached the World Series since 2009, a drought that is hard to believe.

The Bronx team will wait for the winner of the Dodgers and Mets for the Fall Classic. Whoever turns out to be the rival, it will be an ultra special World Series: If it is Los Angeles, nothing less than a new edition of the most historic and desired rivalry in those instances and an exciting clash between the legendary clubs that represent NY and LA. And if it’s the Mets, the second “Subway Series” for the title of the best baseball in the world.

Dodgers host the Mets this Sunday with their second opportunity to win the National League championship after New York’s victory in game 5. The World Series is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 25.

New York Bullpen won the game against the Guardians

The Yankees beat the Guardians based on the strength of their bullpen, which for the second day in a row surpassed Cleveland’s, considered the best in the American League. Four New York relievers combined for 5.1 innings with just 2 hits and zero runs..

However, this victory will be remembered for two hits: Giancarlo Stanton’s home run that tied the score in the sixth inning and that put the muscular slugger of the Yankees above Babe Ruth with 16 home runs for the team in the playoffs. And especially the home run by the Dominican Soto in extra innings. The Yankees acquired him in a mega trade with San Diego in the winter just for these types of moments.

Leading off the 10th inning, Austin Wells walked after one out and reached second on a grounder to a busy ball by Alex Verdugo, who also stayed safe. After Gleyber Torres struck out by reliever Hunter Gaddis, Soto connected on a count of 1 and 2 throughout center field for the 5-2 lead and a blow to the heart of Cleveland.

It is worth mentioning that Soto hit three fouls in a row with two strikes in a great battle with Gaddis, the defeated pitcher, whom he was possibly worrying too much with his fussing in the batter’s box, in a display of enormous competitiveness and self-esteem.

Soto and Stanton, who was named series MVP thanks to his four hits, also homered in Game 4.an 8-6 victory.

Luke Weaver, Yankees closer, was the winning pitcher with two innings of work.
