Toluca beat the Gallos Blancos de Querétaro 1-0 this Friday in a disputed match on the twelfth day of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the MX League. The only goal of the match was the work of the Portuguese Paulinho, who reaffirmed himself as the top scorer of the tournament with eight goals.

The Portuguese striker, who came to Mexican football from Sporting Lisbon, took advantage of an opportunity on the stroke of half-time. In the 45th minute+3, Paulinho received a precise pass and crossed the ball to beat goalkeeper Guillermo Allison, giving the Red Devils the advantage.

The team led by Renato Paiva dominated the match from the first half, generating several dangerous chances. Alexis Vega and Marcel Ruiz were close to opening the scoring before Paulinho’s goalbut their attempts were stopped by the Querétaro defense.

During the second half, Toluca continued its dominance, but a lack of aim prevented them from extending the lead. Shots by Isaías Violante, Jesús Angulo and Paulinho himself were thwarted by the post or by the outstanding performance of Allison.

With this triumphToluca rises to second place in the table with 25 points, four points behind the leader Cruz Azul. Paulinho, for his part, has established himself as the main offensive reference for the Red Devils and the top scorer in Liga MX so far in the tournament.
