Drone hits near Netanyahu's private home as Israel intensifies its offensive in northern Gaza

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported that a drone was launched towards his private residence in the coastal town of Caesarea, in the north of the country.

“The prime minister and his wife were not there, and there were no injuries in the incident,” a statement said.

The news broke after the Israeli military said three drones were launched from Lebanon into Israel on Saturday morning, with one of them hitting a building in Caesarea.

The Israeli government did not specify whether the building was part of the prime minister’s residence or the extent of the damage.

At 08:19 local time, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said: “In the last hour, three unmanned aerial vehicles crossed into the country from Lebanon.”

“Two of the aircraft were intercepted. “Another aircraft collided with a building in Caesarea, there were no injuries.”

“Until victory”

Israeli bombing continued this Saturday in different parts of Lebanon.

The southern neighborhoods of the capital, Beirut, Israel carried out at least 8 airstrikes, two of them near the airport, which is still in use for civilian flights.

In the Bekaa Valley, 5 people died, including a mayor, according to the Lebanese national news agency.

The country’s Health Ministry also reported Saturday that two more people had been killed in an Israeli attack in Jounieh, a majority-Christian town north of Beirut.

The attack hit a moving car that was traveling on the main road, according to local media.

This attack is unusual, as most Israeli operations to date have focused on Shiite Muslim-majority areas, where Hezbollah has a presence.

Meanwhile, after Netanyahu’s office released information about the attack in Caesarea, the prime minister stated that nothing will deter him and that Israel will continue its fight against Hamas “until victory.”

“We have eliminated the master assassin Yahya Sinwar,” he said in a video posted on social media.

Sinwar, one of the main architects of the October 7, 2023 attack against Israel, was killed on Wednesday by Israeli troops.

“I said that we are in the war of resurrection and we continue until the end,” Netanyahu added.

Gaza offensive

Overnight on Friday, the Israeli army continued its offensive in northern Gaza and in the Jabalia refugee camp, where some 20,000 people had to flee on Friday, according to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. .

“People have lost everything. They need everything: food, water, blankets and mattresses: the most basic of the basics.“said Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General of UNRWA, in a publication on the social network X.

He also reported the critical shortage of fuel and medical supplies suffered by the remaining hospitals in the area.

“It is time to end the war and show political will,” he added.

The death toll in Gaza since the war began a year ago now exceeds 42,519, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Communication with northern Gaza is difficult, but the BBC was able to exchange messages with Dr Marwan Al Sultan, from the Indonesian Hospital in the town of Beit Lahia.

“Today we lost two injured patients in the intensive care unit due to lack of electricitywhich is very important for the oxygen generator,” he said.

“The entire hospital is surrounded by Israeli forces, and the medical staff cannot turn on the generator. “They attacked the hospital on the second and third floors,” said the doctor, who assured that they could not look outside because the Israeli soldiers “attack anyone looking from the windows if someone moves.”

The Israeli army told the BBC that its troops were attacking “terrorists” operating near the hospital and that “there was no intentional fire directed at it.”

On Friday night, the Hamas administration in Gaza reported that the homes of three families had been hit by an airstrike and stated that At least 33 people died, 21 of them women, and 85 people were injured.

A video posted on social media – which the BBC has so far been unable to verify – appears to show bodies wrapped in blankets and shrouds on the floor of the nearby Al Awda hospital.

The hospital director sent a message to reporters telling them that his wards were full and that people were being treated on the floor.
