David Beckham described having Messi in the MLS as a “gift”

David Beckhamowner of Inter Miami, assured that bringing Lionel Messi to the United States “was a gift” because the Argentine is going to inspire a whole generation of footballers.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player spoke on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast about several topics, including the hiring of Messi, who arrived in Miami in 2023.

“A lot has changed over the years in MLS and I am very proud to have been part of that change. I know we still have a lot of work to do, but I think what we have done in Miami, when you bring someone like Leo, I would say that was our gift“said the Englishman.

“As the owner of the team, I wanted to do something for the sport, but I also wanted to do something for America, because they have given me a lot over the years, and Bringing Leo to inspire a generation of soccer players in the United States is what we wanted to do“.

“If you can bring in the best players and they are also the right players… There are not many like that, but with Leo we knew what we were signing and that it was going to be a success on the field and that it was going to help us a lot off it“Beckham added.
