The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured this Wednesday that guaranteed that United States investments “are protected”despite the reform to elect the Judiciary by popular vote, during his meeting with 240 executives of American and Mexican companies.

“It was very good because it is an honest, frank relationship, and at the same time they know that what we want is for there to continue to be investments in Mexico and that the investments of foreign investors are protected in our country,” declared the president in her morning conference.

The Mexican leader considered the meeting she had on Tuesday at the ‘US-Mexico CEO Dialogue’ to be “good”where American companies made investment announcements of more than $20 billion by 2025.

The meeting was marked by protests outside the National Palace against the reform enacted on September 15 so that starting in 2025 there will be popular elections for judges, magistrates and the Supreme Court, something that has generated nervousness in the private sector.

“Yesterday I told you: What do we want? Well, a system for the Judiciary that is at the service of the nation. And I also told you: all my life I fought for democracy and we did not become president by being authoritarian,” Sheinbaum commented now.

The president asserted that the reform does not seek for the “president to have control over the Supreme Court,” but rather that “the objective is to end corruption in the Judiciary.”

He also announced working groups with businessmen on ‘nearshoring’ or the phenomenon of company relocation, insecurity on roads and border crossings.

And he promised to work for the review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), which would begin in the second half of 2025.

“All of this was openly presented to them, and we also said: we want the treaty to continue, we want investment in Mexico.investments in Mexico will be safe, there will be certainty of all kinds. And I also said: we will always continue talking,” said Sheinbaum.
