Mexico ends drought vs. United States: 2-0 with a great night from Raúl Jiménez

Raul Jimenez The Mexican team showed that it is back by leading the 2-0 victory about the United States in a friendly game in Guadalajara with a performance full of brilliant tints, where he played everything called the “Wolf of Tepeji.”

There were almost 12 months of absence for Jiménez in the attack of the Aztec team and a period of almost three years in which he struggled to recover his level from skull fracture who suffered a head collision with the Brazilian André Luiz, in a duel between Wolverhampton vs. Arsenal where the Mexican got the worst of it.

From that moment on, Jiménez struggled seriously to recover his level both in the Premier League. But along with his current good moment at Fulham, Jiménez came to Mexico’s attack to lead this Tuesday night at the Akron stadium a victory that allows the Tricolor to break a streak of seven games without winning against the Bars squad and the stars.

The Mexican team had the strength and drive of Jiménez in its favor To demonstrate his good moment and with several important plays trying to collaborate in the attack, the former América forward put a cellophane bow on his great night with a great goal from a free kick in the 22nd minute to open the scoring against the Americans.

But his performance did not stop there, because at the beginning of the second half he carried out a very strong action when, after losing the ball, Jiménez swept and gave a pass in the area to César “Chino” Huerta so that in a dribble on the short field he made it 2-0 to give the Aztec team a victory that calms the waters due to the pressure that exists around the Tricolor.

The United States suffered from the absences

For its part, the United States suffered from the absence of players like Marlon Fossey, Weston McKennie, Ricardo Pepi, Christian Pulisic and Zack Steffen, but above all Pulisic, who pulls the strings of the North American team and who under the orders of Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino are barely picking up pace.

The reality is that the Americans found it difficult to have little time on the bench of their new coach and for that reason they seemed like a team with a low football proposal, to the extent that in the first half They had no advances to worry goalkeeper Luis Malagón of the Aztec team.

Mexicans broke the American yoke

In this way, Mexico took off the yoke of the Americans in the last seven gamessince the last Aztec victory occurred on September 6, 2019, when in a friendly in East Rutherford they won 3-0.

From that moment on, The Americans had five wins and two drawswhich generated disappointment among Mexican fans, including the most recent setback on March 24 in the Nations League final when they fell 2-0 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Besides, Mexico had not defeated the United States on Mexican soil for 15 yearswhen they won on August 11, 2009 in the hexagonal qualifying round for the World Cup in South Africa 2-1 at the Azteca Stadium.

The truth is that we will have to wait for an official duel between both teams to see if with Javier Aguirre at the helm they can beat the North Americans again.

Andrés Guardado said goodbye

The duel also served to render tribute to the five-time World Cup winner Andrés Guardado, who after 18 years as a national team said goodbye to the Tricolor leaving behind an impeccable career that included the World Cups in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

Former World Cup teams Ramón Morales and Benjamín Galindo were also honored to give a touch of solemnity to this preparation game on the FiFA date in October.
