Around 1,000 migrants left this Sunday from Tapachula, Chiapas, on the southern border of Mexico, in a new caravan called ‘God Guides Us’, bound for Mexico City, due to the delay of ‘CBP One’ appointments, the lack of employment, the difficult economic situation, insecurity and violence.

The group of undocumented immigrants, mostly from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Haiti, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rica, Afghanistan, Nepal and other countries, walk with the hope of being heard by the Mexican Government, led by Claudia Sheinbaum.

Álvaro Batista, a migrant from Colombia traveling with his family, has overcome various obstacles to reach the southern border, which is why he has joined this contingent to be able to cross Mexico and reach the border with the United States.

“What we are doing is not illegal and (we want) the path to be made easier for us with the National Guard that can provide us with support.”I would appreciate it, it is better to travel in a group than alone, especially for women and children,” he said.

This Colombian is not discouraged and walks to reach Huehuetán as his first stop to rest.

This Sunday Jeison, a migrant from Venezuela, asked for support from the health sector because he stated that the caravan includes many women and children who have left their countries because there is no work and things have a very high price so that people can stay.

“That’s why we ask that you guide us to Mexico City, where we want to go until we receive the ‘CBP One’ appointment,” he said.

This is the second caravan of migrants that leaves this region towards the capital of the country and with which the migrants ask from the southern gate of Mexico to generate employment, security, a human stay for their transit and cross the country.

This group of people is guarded by state traffic elements and municipal police who are preventing the caravan from going in its only lane to prevent accidents on federal highway 200.

Another reason why they have decided to go out is that they do not want to die of hunger in the streets and parks, because there are minors who only put one piece of toast in their mouths a day.

They requested humanitarian support from the Mexican government because the city of Tapachula is filling up with many migrants. who are wandering without being able to have an economic livelihood.

The daily detention of migrants on the United States border with Mexico fell nearly 66% from December to September, according to the Mexican Government, but irregular migration rose 193% year-on-year in the first half of the year to exceed 712,000 people, according to the Migration Policy Unit.
