Argentina dreams of having a Formula 1 Grand Prix again

The Government of Argentina recently announced that it will carry out the necessary steps for Buenos Aires to be included in the calendar of the Formula 1 and the Argentine capital will once again receive a Grand Prix from the highest category of world motorsport.

The great performance that the young Argentine driver is having Franco Colapinto with the Williams team since its debut in F1 at the last Italian Grand Prix at the beginning of September, it has revived the passion for motorsports in the country where football captures all the attention of the fan.

The announcement was made by the Secretary of Sports and Tourism, Daniel Scioli, who assured that this approach will be made to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the North American company Liberty Media, the main person responsible for Formula 1.

After his recent arrival in Formula 1 with the British Williams team, Franco Colapinto has become a celebrity in his native Argentina.

“On November 1 I will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the president of Liberty, who is responsible for the organization of these events, and with the president of the FIA”assured the member of the government who seeks to bring an F1 Grand Prix to Argentina, which last received one in 1998.

Daniel Scioli’s approach to the Formula 1 authorities will be during the Brazilian Grand Prix that will take place at the Interlagos Circuit on the weekend of November 3. This test is one of the four races on the F1 calendar that is run on the American Continent.

According to the Argentine politician, the South American country has the logistical conditions to carry out an event of this magnitude and also has the financial support of private investors to cover the high costs involved in a Formula 1 race. .

At the infrastructure level, Daniel Scioli said that at the Autódromo de Buenos Aires “the necessary works are being carried out to meet the requirements” involved in receiving a Grand Prix in the highest category of world motorsport. This venue has capacity for 90,000 people.

They want it back

Argentina, land of one of the great legends of world motorsports such as Juan Manuel Fangio, in the past had the opportunity to host Formula 1 races and now they have the objective of recovering them in the near future.

The first Formula 1 Argentine Grand Prix was held in 1953. From that moment on, the event in Buenos Aires remained on the calendar until 1960 with the exception of 1959 after the withdrawal of the Fangio tracks on the 6th. July 1958.

Formula 1 returned to the South American country in a couple of periods that spanned between 1971 and 1981 and later between 1995 and 1998 when the highest category of world motorsport said goodbye to Buenos Aires.
