Netflix has established itself as one of the most relevant streaming platforms, offering a varied catalog of movies, series and documentaries that attracts millions of subscribers every month. For that reason, it is attractive, for many fans, that they are working on a project of such magnitude.

It’s not the first time for Netflix

This would not be the first time that Netflix addresses a work by Austen, since in 2022, they released ‘Persuasion’. The project, which promises to attract both admirers of the novel and a new generation of viewers.

Pride and Prejudice, published in 1813, has been the subject of numerous adaptations, including the emblematic miniseries from the 1995 BBC and the 2005 film. Each new version poses the challenge of reinterpreting a story that is still relevant. The plot, Centered on Elizabeth Bennet and her relationship with the proud Fitzwilliam Darcy, it addresses universal themes such as love and independence, making it timeless.

Alderton’s inclusion could bring a contemporary perspective to the narrative, reflecting the complexities of current relationships and especially resonating with millennial and Gen Z women.

There is also a rumor that ‘Normal People’ actress Daysi Edgar-Jones is starring.

Meanwhile, the BBC is also developing a spin-off titled ‘The Other Bennet Sister’, centered on Mary Bennet, which underlines the continued interest in Austen’s universe.

Although the cast has not yet been confirmed, fans are speculating about who could play these iconic characters. Netflix’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice not only promises to revive a classic story, but also connect with new audiences, underscoring the importance of adaptation in the modern era.
