A little more than a month has passed since the internal war broke out in the Sinaloa Cartel and the violence has not been able to be contained, mainly in Culiacán, the state capital.

Although the Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum rejected the use of the Armed Forces to declare war on organized crime, recently 100 elements of the Army Special Forces were sent to the entity to monitor the situation.

Along with them, 10 armored ground units were sent to reinforce security in Culiacán. Known as “Ocelotl”belong to a new generation of light armored military vehicles.

This “mini tank” was designed especially for the needs of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), with the capacity to transport up to 11 crew members, the agency detailed in a statement.

These are war vehicles based on the Cobra 4 from the Streit Group company with a low-consumption Turbo Diesel engine that allows you to travel more than 400 kilometers without having to refuel.

Among its main features, They have the ability to climb slopes of 65 degrees of inclination towards the front, and has an automatic transmission with selectable 4×4 traction of different configurations.

An important factor is its tire inflation and deflation system, something essential compared to the devices known as “tire punctures” that hitmen usually throw when they are pursued by the authorities.

According to Sedena, the armor of the “Ocelotl” It is capable of resisting high caliber impacts and the detonation of explosivesthus safeguarding the physical integrity of its crew members.

But that’s not all, because to repel the attacks of criminals, it has a 360-degree rotating turret and the ability to mount weapons of different calibers, such as the powerful 50-caliber Barret rifle.

In addition, it has hatches on the sides of the vehicle to be able to repel confrontations without exposing its crew members.

The “Ocelotl” and the 100 elements of the Army Special Forces will join the elements of the National Guard that were stationed in other states, and that will help public security efforts in Sinaloa, as confirmed by the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya.
