Kamala Harris wants to attract the “sandwich generation” with a new health project

Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris seeks to attract the vote of the so-called “sandwich generation”, that is, middle-aged and older people.

One of the strategies of the Harris-Walz campaign will be an interview of the vice president on The View, one of the highest-rated programs in the United States, followed mostly by women.

The so-called “sandwich generation”, according to the description of the campaign itself, is made up of people who raise their children and take care of their elderly parents.

“More than 105 million Americans are currently the primary caregivers for their loved ones,” according to campaign figures.

The issues that the vice president will address are the high cost of living for this generation and, in addition to her well-known social plans, such as a tax credit of up to $6,000 for families with babies, as well as a housing program, Harris will introduce a health project novel.

“He will lay out, for the first time, a historic plan to strengthen Medicare to cover home health care for seniors,” the campaign said. “The campaign will release a new proposal today to offer for the first time a Medicare home health benefit that addresses the long-term care needs of older adults.”

The campaign noted that Medicare does not currently cover long-term services and care except in particularly limited circumstances.

“This situation is unbearable for most older adults, since the average cost of a home health aide can be almost double the income of the typical Medicare beneficiary,” it is justified. “Vice President Harris’ plan would cover home health care services, such as in-home assistance, so seniors can age with dignity at home, while avoiding high health care costs in a special center, like a nursing home.”

It is estimated that with the health plan, families could save up to $3,000 a month or more for senior care.

“The benefit will be paid in full by expanding Medicare drug price negotiations, increasing the discounts drug manufacturers cover for certain brand-name drugs in Medicare, cracking down on hidden costs by pharmacy benefit managers and other measures,” it was indicated.

The proposal, at first, seems like an extension of the current health programs that are implemented with the Inflation Reduction Act by the Biden Administration, which already processes price reductions for a first package of 10 medications, as well as maintaining the cost. of insulin at $35 per month and a package to reimburse extra expenses on medications.

The Harris-Walz campaign argued that the new plan contrasts with that of former President Donald Trump, who seeks cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, as well as a plan to raise the retirement age to 70.

In addition to this new health plan, Harris will defend her social project that includes a tax reduction of $3,600 per child, a plan that verified its effectiveness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
