Paul Pogba will have an sooner return to the field after having his doping sanction reduced. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the sanction from 4 years to 18 months.

According to reports, Pogba could return to training with Juventus from January 2025 and in March of next year he would make his debut in the current season.

The French midfielder published a photo of his boots and a watch on social media, making it clear that his return to the field is getting closer.

Pogba has not played a professional match since September 3, 2023. In that match he played only 28 minutes in Juventus’ 0-2 defeat against Empoli. Since then, he has been serving his doping ban.

Juventus is second in Serie A with 12 points after six games. Thiago Motta’s team is four points behind Antonio Conte’s Napoli, although with one less game played.

Why was Paul Pogba suspended?

The French international was suspended in September 2023 after he tested positive for testosterone in a match against Udinese, the first of Serie A 2023-24 in the month of August.

Pogba appealed the decision, but the Italian Anti-Doping Court upheld the sanction, confirmed by the Italian Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office in February 2024.

The midfielder had to take the case to Switzerland, to the CAS, and, after months of silence in which there was even speculation about his retirement, his return to Juventus is almost confirmed.

With a contract until 2026, he will be under the orders of Thiago Motta in March, when the 18 months of sanction reduction are completed, in the event that the CAS makes the aforementioned reduction official.
