Ken Salazar, United States ambassador to Mexico, made evident the great optimism in the Mexico-United States bilateral relationship to deepen cooperation, with Claudia Sheinbaum as the country’s first female president.

Through a public letter, The ambassador said that, “This is North America’s moment and the fact that Mexico has its first female president, It gives us hope as a region. “I join in congratulating President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the presidential delegation led by First Lady Jill Biden to the people of Mexico.”

“We will continue to collaborate on a comprehensive agenda with a view to 2030. “I look to the future with renewed hope for what we have achieved together as partners and for what we can achieve through dialogue and cooperation for the security, prosperity and development of our nations,” the diplomat emphasized.

Such a position comes just weeks after a break with the outgoing government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who established “a pause” with United States diplomacy. after criticism of the judicial reform.

At the time, Salazar insisted that there was concern about the reform of the Judiciary, which was finally approved and promulgated by López Obrador on his last day in power.

In a change of page, Salazar now said that, “Our relationship is based on dialogue and understanding. The T-MEC and our shared democratic values serve as a basis to provide us with certainty and base our cooperation for the well-being of our people.”

“We are very optimistic about this new chapter in our bilateral relationship to deepen our cooperation. In the last four years, our countries became the main trading partners. We have made historic achievements in curbing drug, gun and human trafficking, as well as addressing migration as a shared responsibility. In addition, we are making progress in clean energy and the fight against climate change,” he concluded.

Finally, he said that the T-MEC provides a great opportunity to continue deepening integration and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise and nearshoring, “We will continue working to build an exemplary 21st century border that is modern, safe and efficient.”
