The drug dealer’s hearing Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada could have a date change, after the New York Prosecutor’s Office requested that it take place on Thursday, October 17 and not on the 31st of the same month as originally scheduled.

Through a statement addressed to Judge Brian Cogan, they asked to advance the date of the hearing of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartelarguing that there is a conflict with the date established previously.

According to media such as the newspaper El Universal, the defense of the capo arrested on July 25 and accused of crimes related to drug trafficking, accepted the modification.

“The government has agreed with the defense and your honorable court manager on convenient dates, and all are available on October 17, 2024 at 2:15 p.m.,” the prosecution wrote in the letter.

This comes a day after Judge Cogan delayed the sentencing hearing against Genaro García Lunaformer Mexican Federal Security Secretary, which would take place on October 9 and was rescheduled for October 16.

In this way, Zambada García’s hearing would take place one day after the sentence against García Luna is announced, convicted of five counts of drug trafficking and false statements in 2023.

“El Mayo” already appeared in New York on September 13. He faces 17 charges for drug trafficking, organized crime and money laundering.

His lawyer, Frank Pérez, assured that his client will not negotiate with the United States government, but will go to trial. Due to the charges, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel can be sentenced to life imprisonment.

The criminal leader had been a fugitive in Mexico for more than 40 years and, until his capture, was one of the most wanted drug traffickers by the United States, with a reward of 15 million dollars.
