Los Angeles murder suspect refuses to appear

The suspect in the hijacking of a Metro bus in Los Angeles, an incident in which a Hispanic passenger was shot to death, This Monday he refused to appear in courtauthorities said.

A judge reportedly issued an extraction order for the suspect, identified as Lamont Campbell, 51, appear in court this Tuesday, October 1 in Department 30 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Campbell was arrested on Wednesday, September 25 after a bus hijacking in South Los Angeles, The suspect was booked on suspicion of murder and remains in custody without bail.

Campbell is charged with one count of murderone count of attempted murder, one count of felony kidnapping during vehicle theft, four counts of felony kidnapping, one count of felony vehicle theft.

Also with one count of felony assault with a semi-automatic pistol, one count of felony robbery, one count of felony evading with reckless indifference and one count of felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

The prosecution alleged that the accused personally used a firearm in the commission of these crimes.

If Campbell is found guilty of all charges, faces a maximum sentence of 90 years and eight months to life in prison.

“My deepest condolences to the victim’s family and all those affected by this horrible event. Every day, countless people depend on public transportation to continue with their lives, work, go to school and connect with their loved ones,” Gascón said in a statement.
