The British driver and 7-time world champion in Formula 1, in addition to being the absolute owner of the majority of the championship’s historical records, Lewis Hamilton recently revealed that he has suffered from depression since he was a teenager, when he was a victim of bullying, to which was added the pressure he suffered from racing and everything that the competition involves. of them and the world of engines.

Speaking with an open heart

In a recent interview given to the English newspaper, Sunday Times, the driver who currently lives with the Mercedes team, stated that the mental health problems he suffers have been going on since he was very young: “When I was 20 years old, I went through some very difficult phases. “I have suffered with my mental health my entire life.”

“Depression,” Hamilton made clear to give his situation a name and continue talking about it in the following way.: “From a very young age, when I was about 13 years old. I think it was the pressure of racing. and difficulties at school. School bullying. “I had no one to talk to.”

A light among so much darkness

One of the ways in which Lewis Hamilton was able to find a balance to cope with this situation was through meditation, something that has helped him a lot over the years: “At first I suffered to calm my mind”said. “But it’s a great way to get in touch with myself, with my inner feelings, and understand what I can do.”

Despite this, Hamilton says he has only had a counseling session once.but unfortunately he did not find a solution. However, he does not lose hope in finding a person who can contribute much more to his improvement: “I spoke to a woman years ago, but she didn’t help me much. I would like to find someone today,” concluded the English pilot.

Hamilton made his arrival in Formula 1 in the 2007 season at the age of 22 as a driver for the McLaren team. and was a leading championship contender that same season, and in 2008 he was able to capture the first of his seven drivers’ world championships. For the 2025 campaign he will be facing a new challenge in his career; to defend the colors of Ferrari, a team with which he aspires to become world champion again and in a forceful way.
