The current Atlético de Madrid player, Antoine Griezmann announced his official retirement through his social networks of the French national team. The Colchonero footballer issued a brief statement with audiovisual material of images of him where he can be seen playing with France in which he says: “With a heart full of memories I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon.”
Why is Griezmann retiring?
In the video the player explained the reason and reasons why he made the decision to put an end to his time as an international player: “Today, with deep emotion, I announce my retirement as a player from the French national team.. After 10 incredible years, marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time to turn the page and make way for the new generation. Wearing this shirt has been an honor and a privilege. From March 2014 until last September, I had the opportunity to experience incredible moments with exceptional teammates. We shared victories that will be forever etched in our memories.”
Numbers and championships with France
Griezmann, 33, leaves Les Bleus after having defended the colors of France in a total of 137 games disputed matches, in which he managed to score 44 goals and was able to distribute 38 assists during a decade; debuting in March 2014 in a friendly match against the Netherlands and his final match in September of this year against Belgium.
In this period of time he played a total of 3 World Cups, winning the 2018 one, the Russian edition, and being runner-up in 2022 in Qatar, and three Euro Cups, finishing second in 2016. He also won the 2021 Nations League.
